Group for Teenage Girls

New to the program

We recently launched a weekly program for teenage girls at the Lumina community centers. Since we started at the Colorom community center nearly two years ago, the children have also gotten two years older. A number of girls have outgrown the oldest group in the kids’ club. At the youth group on Fridays, we mainly see boys showing up, while the girls were kind of falling through the cracks—even though this is such an important age.

That’s why we’ve set up a program specifically for teenage girls. At the first meeting, they each received their own notebook, which we use every week.

Themes

Each week focuses on a specific theme, which is explored through the lens of the Bible. What challenges do the girls face? What excites them? What does the Bible say about these things? And how can they apply these lessons in practical ways?

The topics vary depending on the girls’ own needs. They include subjects such as menstruation, falling in love, self-image, and dealing with emotions. Virtually none of the girls have anyone with whom they can discuss or share these kinds of topics.

Safety

It’s impressive how quickly the group has grown and how open the girls have become. We’re grateful for the safe and loving atmosphere at Lumina, which allows them to express this openness.
