Community center Lumina

Preparations for setting up Community Center Lumina are in full swing! The opening will take place in mid-January 2024, and activities will begin. The community center is centrally located in a densely populated neighborhood with many apartment buildings. The living conditions are poor, there are inadequate facilities, and, most importantly, many social problems.

With Community Center Lumina—which means “light” in Romanian—we aim to truly bring light. We want to convey that The Light, Jesus, indeed brings Light.

Activities will be offered for every age group, from young to old.

There is a great need for relaxation and education for children, as well as providing a space for adults where they can share in a pleasant atmosphere, engage in creative activities, and receive support.

The community center will be open from Monday to Saturday. There will be someone present every day between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM so that everyone can drop by for questions or assistance. Additionally, several activities will start from the end of January 2024:

  • Children’s Club
  • Youth evenings
  • Men’s group
  • Women’s group

The launch will mainly be low-threshold to gain recognition and build relationships. For the children, there will be crafts, storytelling, but most importantly, focus on education, which is currently severely lacking, with most children facing learning gaps.

For the youth, Friday evenings will be dedicated to a relaxed evening, ranging from playing on the PlayStation to watching a movie, sports, or board games. There will be space for relaxation as well as for building relationships and having good conversations.

The women’s group will start with a sewing club. Sewing machines have been collected so they can learn to sew. This way, they can repair torn clothing and, possibly in the long term, create their own clothes or accessories. Afterward, there will be time to catch up over a cup of tea, share experiences, and raise any questions they may have.

The men’s group will also start with low-threshold activities such as darts, table tennis, or games. This is precisely to begin building relationships and discussing their needs. The foundation of all leadership and activities will be that the Christian gospel is lived and shared.
